It has been announced that Kandy Girl’s business duo Rachel & Tru Powell have been crowned the winners for the 2018 NatWest Great British Entrepreneur Awards in the Entrepreneurial Spirit category.
The news comes after the siblings beat off some tough competition in order to make the regional shortlist and win the overall entrepreneurial spirit category award.
Kandy Girl is the UK’s first pamper salon exclusively for children. Since the companies inception in late 2017 the company has received over £500,000 worth in press, welcomed over 1500 kids into the salon and hosted over 100 pamper parties. The two are showing no signs of slowing down as they are currently looking for another site and due to launch the first Kandy Girl product range in January 2019.
Speaking on the award win Tru Powell, Partner in Kandy Girl said: “We are humbled and honoured to win such a prestigious award given we have only been trading 12 months. It hasn’t been easy but my sister Rachel and I are extremely proud on what we have achieved thus far.
Rachel continued: “For the judges to see the value in what we are doing and crown us winners has somewhat made it all worth it. We certainly don’t do what we do for the awards but being recognised as entrepreneurs feels great.”
Now in its sixth year, the NatWest Great British Entrepreneur Awards has celebrated some amazing entrepreneurs over the years, many of whom are now household names. Past winners include David Buttress of Just Eat, Julie Deane OBE of The Cambridge Satchel Company, James Watt of BrewDog and most recently, Hannah and Sophie Pycroft of Spectrum Collections.
Winners were crowned across 12 categories in total including Family Business, Entrepreneurs’ Team and Entrepreneurial Spirit.
Francesca James, Co-Founder of the Awards said: “2018 has been a record year for the Great British Entrepreneur Awards in the number of entries we received. But the quality of applications has been above and beyond what we’ve seen in previous years.
Just getting to the gala final is a huge achievement given the competition on show, so we would just like to say congratulations to all of our shortlisted entrepreneurs, and our winners!”
Speaking on the award win, the judges said…
“Rachel & Tru have done fantastically well to get to where they are. The concept of the business is new to the UK and hopefully they will benefit from scaling up quickly.”
